After watching the clip of Hugh Laurie singing America, it was evident that the British do not think very highly of us as a country. I may be looking into it a little bit too much, but there wasn't much substance to the song. They could be trying to portray our level of intelligence or lack of creativity. The 2 minute clip had about 2 words in it the entire time. The laughter in the background reinforced the fact that it seemed the British don't care about what the "American" singer had to say. Hugh was dressed a bit hillbilly-ish. When the man came and knocked him off the bench, that topped it off with the overall feeling that the British don't like or respect American society.
This was my first time seeing another country making fun of America. With shows like Saturday Night Live and South Park, we see it in reverse, but don't realize how offensive it may be while we are laughing about it. It was very insightful to see and puts things into perspective.
